We have now been in australia for a couple of weeks and have travelled from Brisbane to Sydney, and will soon be travelling to Melbourne. Brisbane was rather wet and rainy we we’re going to go to Fraser Island but because of all the bad weather, even Surfers Paradise was stormy, we decided to head down to sydney where it is sunny. We have been all over sydney already seeing places like Bondi Beach, The Opera House and the Power House Museum. In The Powerhouse Museum we saw a Star Wars Exhibition which was interesting. We had one fine day in Surfers Paradise so we walked along the beach and went into the center of town, I went up the Q1 building to the 77th floor within 40 seconds which is certainly a difference in pressure. Got alot of photos of a very nice view. Now currently in Sydney we are having a good time seeing the place and on wednsday we will be going to Melbourne. in another 10 days we will be back in holland… thats strange to say but its good to know its getting sunny at home.
We have been to Wellington, Palmerston North, Napier, Taupo and Rotorua. After Rotorua we saw Tauranga which is a very nice place, in Tauranga we hired a car and drove to the Coromandel. There we got alot of nice pictures and saw great beaches. We’ve also been to Mount Maunganui (yes that’s a mouthful). From Tauranga we took the bus at 7:50am to Hamilton where we now are located at the Eagles Nest, a cosy hostel in the center of Hamilton.
We’ll keep you posted…
Hello Everyone,
Currently we are in Napier, enjoying really sunny weather (finally we have sun again). After christchurch we went towards Kaikoura, there I went whale watching in a sea sickmaking sea.. after that we headed up north to picton where we stayed one night at atlantis backpackers which wasn’t the best hostel ever but it was just for one night.
Then we took the Interislander to Wellington where we had a good time eventhough the weather wasn’t the best ever, I’ve been to the movies many a time, and saw the beehive, cable car and botanic gardens there. The gardens were really nice I have a few pictures of them which I shall try to upload. We stayed with family in Palmerston North which was nice, we played our first real game of Golf Croquet in which I got my butt kicked, I also went for a relaxing swim in the local pool which was superbly relaxing. Now we are in Napier and will be going to the marine park and viewing the sights to see… but first we attack starbucks!
Take care whatever the temperature is
p.s. Sweet As, Bro, Fush & Chups just for your daily fix of kiwi slang
We have now been to Dunedin, Queenstown, Wanaka, Lake Tekapo and Hanmer Springs. I likes Queenstown alot… well basically it was all good but queenstown had something to it… Touristy place yes, but still nice location and active.
Dunedin was a nice place to see nature, we saw Albatrosses, Sea Lions, Seals and Penguins. Wanaka was a fun timeout spot there we went to puzzeling world and got lost in the maze. I also went for a walk up Mt. Iron which was good fun, I had a few nice views from the top. Lake Tekapo was a really good place for stargazing which was awesome to see Saturn up close through a rather large telescope, one i’d like to have at home. Of course today we also had a good time at Hanmer Springs, sat and soaked in the Hot Pools.
Well i’ll update again in Kaikoura , Take care for now
Cheers.
Today i’m in Queenstown, New Zealand. I like this town is has a nice feeling about it in amongst the mountains and at the edge of the lake.
Getting to queenstown was a little tiring in the bus without any decent stops, the distances here are totally different to Holland its like going from Amsterdam to Paris in a 4 hour trip to get from Dunedin to Queenstown.
At least the weather over here is nice, its 24 degrees and cloudy today, tomorrow it’s going to be 21 degrees. I am already rather tanned from it all Some people here say i have a mixed accent dutch and kiwi mixed together, I wonder why…
For tomorrow we’re going to book a gold panning tour which is something i’ve done before when I was young but i would still like to have some fun with bridget. I kinda want to do get myself involved in something active and move around a little but i still need to figure out what so we’ll see if that’ll come around. I try to get some pictures online in the near future.
Well for now i’ll leave it there. Maybe i’ll expand this entry when i have more time.
[Update]
It turned out we needed our own transport to get to the gold panning so instead we decided to go out swimming. There we had a great time, it was a cool swimming pool and there was alot of space to swim (there weren’t many people there. So after we went swimming we took the bus back into Queenstown and decided to go out for dinner, We had a really awesome dinner at the Speight’s Ale House, we both ordered Filet Mignon which was really good. (Same stuff we had in San Francisco with Shahan and Camilla). After that we headed back to the hostel and had a reasonably good nights sleep.
Today (the Sunday) I decided to go up to bob’s peak with the gondola, There i took a ride on the Luge (which was awesome) after that we went to the movies “Bride wars” which is definintly a chick flick….

Happy new year to all!
We just got back from Nelson on the 31st, We had a good time up there together. Did quite a few things I stood on the lookout you can see in the link (the cross in the sky) it was a really great lookout spot privatly owned about 70 mtrs above sea level.
We celebrated New Years Eve in Balcairn, Canterbury with margot and richard. We stood up on the roof together and watch the fireworks in christchurch.
By the way, Google maps & Street view is spooky… Can look up everything without going
Anyway i’ve got to do some tying so take care for now
Hi everyone,
Currently still with family enjoying the christmas days. Christchurch was good fun, saw the old house and took the bus through the neighbourhood.
Also went to my old school and walked through the grounds which brought up good memories.
Currently we have a great view of the countryside and mount gray. which is nice to see in the morning, we spent a while in the sun on the roof which is great, especially when I see its cold at home
Tomorrow we’ll be taking a 5 to 8 hour drive up to Nelson to see family, there we are going to stay for two days then we’ll be heading back down the west coast.
Well take care for now and i’ll update once back here
Its strange being back, I saw Christchurch for the first time in 13 years yesterday. Everywhere I see things I remember, and other times I ask myself if I remember that from when I was 13 or was it from a photo? We walked around the Cathedral in Christchurch yesterday and did some shopping. We even stopped at Starbucks for a hot chocolate. Tomorrow we’re going to see more of christchurch hopefully the good weather will hold. We plan on going punting and taking the tram around the city center. We are currently at family enjoying the countryside and recovering from the jet lag.
We took the bikes back and decided to go checkout Alcatraz which was closed on the sunday, so we got tickets for Monday. After doing that we walked to Lombard Street and saw how san francisco makes a road into a tourist attraction, one with a really great view of San Francisco. The we walked back to the Hostel via Hyde and Sacremento and saw the grace cathedral which looked a bit like the Notre Dame in paris. The Next day we took the F line to Pier 33 to go to Alcatraz, hopped on the Boat and 10 minutes later we were watching a movie about the history of the Island, did you know it was used by families and that families actually lived next to the Prision? We also did the Audio tour of the Cell block which was a scary experience, made it sound pretty real… All in all it was a fun Experience and the whole time we had good weather.
